Green means that the portion of the latter's pool is smaller (possibly underbet). Red means that the portion of the latter's pool is larger (possibly overbet). The maximum and minimum are shown in bolded text.

What This Does

This calculator amplifies imbalances in the WPS pools to make them easier to see. For example if 15% of all the money in a race's win pool is bet on the number 1 horse and 5% of all the money in the place pool is bet on the number 1 horse then you will see a green 10 for the 1 horse in the WIN-PLACE column representing the 10% difference between the win and place pools for the number 1 horse.

Suggestions For Use

Over twenty years ago this was the calculator that I was asked to make most often. I have coded it for all kinds of calculators, PCs and even mainframes. Many people thought this was the holy grail of tote watching because two or three times on a race card you would find an advantageous bet with this information and once in a blue moon you would find a "can't lose" bet (as long as you didn't bet enough to over influence the pools). Now those opportunities dry up fast because many people and computers are still watching every race for them.
That doesn't mean it is no longer useful. It is very good at spotting the effects of 'Bridge Jumpers'. A 'Bridge Jumper' is someone who places a crazy huge bet like '$50,000 to Show'. Hoping for at least a $2500 return on the minimum payout. A 'Bridge Jumper' can offer an opportunity because if their pick runs out of the money, show tickets pay very well.
